Halloween deserves good music — and if you're the kind of household that takes the holiday seriously, there's no better way to set the mood than a great record. We carry three editions of Vince Guaraldi's beloved It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown soundtrack — ranging from the budget-friendly standard pressing to a pumpkin-shaped novelty edition to the full zoetrope pressing with animated label art. And for anyone who wants to turn the energy up, Michael Jackson's Scream compilation presses the King of Pop's most Halloween-appropriate tracks onto glow-in-the-dark vinyl.
Here's the full rundown on what we carry and how to choose.
It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown — Three Ways to Own It
Vince Guaraldi's jazz score for the 1966 Peanuts Halloween special is one of the most beloved seasonal soundtracks ever recorded. Warm, cozy, and unmistakably autumnal — it's been the soundtrack to October evenings for sixty years. We carry three distinct editions, each with something different to offer.
🟠 The Collector's Edition · Pumpkin Shaped · Lost Session Reels
$39.98
Vince Guaraldi — It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (Vinyl LP, Orange Pumpkin Shaped)
Previously thought lost to time: the original analog session reels for It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, recovered and released for the first time on this special Craft Recordings edition. These are the cues as Vince Guaraldi and his trio actually recorded them in the studio — before they were edited and sweetened for the television special — plus a selection of alternate takes not heard anywhere else. Expanded liner notes complete the package. And then there's the pressing itself: a 33⅓ RPM orange vinyl disc cut into the actual shape of a pumpkin. It is exactly as delightful as it sounds. A genuine gift item — for yourself or for the Peanuts fan in your life.
🎬 The Zoetrope Edition · Animated Label Art
$42.98
Vince Guaraldi — It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (Vinyl LP, Zoetrope)
The most visually spectacular way to own the soundtrack. This zoetrope pressing features animated label art that appears to move when the record spins — film it with your phone camera in video mode at 30fps and watch the Peanuts Halloween scene come to life on your screen. The effect is genuinely magical and one of the most shareable things you can put on a turntable. The ideal Halloween party record: it sounds great, it looks incredible while it's playing, and it gives everyone in the room something to point their phone at. If you want to understand how zoetrope vinyl works before buying, our complete guide explains it all.
🎃 The Essential · 45 RPM
$29.98
Vince Guaraldi — It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (Vinyl LP, 45 RPM)
The standard edition and the most affordable way to own the soundtrack — pressed at 45 RPM for enhanced audio quality, with all the familiar cues: "Linus and Lucy," "The Great Pumpkin Waltz," "Graveyard Theme," "The Red Baron," and more. If you just want the music on vinyl without any of the novelty extras, this is the one. Great sound, classic packaging, nothing extraneous.
Which Edition Is Right for You?
If you want the best audio experience and the most affordable price: the 45 RPM standard edition at $29.98. If you want a genuinely special physical object and the unreleased session material: the pumpkin-shaped edition at $39.98 — it's also the best gift option. If you're hosting a Halloween gathering and want something that will stop the room: the zoetrope edition at $42.98. All three are in stock now.
For the Spookier Side of Halloween
Guaraldi sets the cozy October mood. Jackson cranks the energy up.
👻 Halloween Compilation · Glow in the Dark 2xLP · Includes Poster
$41.98
Michael Jackson — Scream (Vinyl 2xLP, Glow in the Dark / Blue)
Released in 2017 as the ultimate Halloween playlist on vinyl, Scream is a curated 13-track collection of Michael Jackson's darkest, most Halloween-appropriate material — spanning his entire catalog on Sony Legacy. Side A opens with "This Place Hotel (a.k.a. Heartbreak Hotel)" and leads into "Thriller" — the song that more or less defined Halloween music for a generation. From there: "Blood on the Dance Floor," "Somebody's Watching Me," "Dirty Diana," "Torture," "Leave Me Alone," "Scream," "Dangerous," "Unbreakable," "Xscape," "Threatened," and "Ghosts." The vinyl-exclusive bonus track "Blood on the Dance Floor X Dangerous (The White Panda Mash-Up)" closes the set. Pressed on glow-in-the-dark blue vinyl across two LPs, with an exclusive poster insert. It glows. Of course it does.
