The Ongoing Concept

The Ongoing Concept is a Christian metalcore band from Nampa, Idaho, known for their creative experimentation with genre and DIY aesthetic. Their album Handmade lives up to its name, with the band reportedly crafting many of the physical elements of the release themselves, reflecting a deeply personal and hands-on approach to their art. Fans of boundary-pushing heavy music will find plenty to dig into across their catalog, including Handmade and Places, both available at Collide Records.

Though nominally a metal album, The Ongoing Concept's debut, Saloon, covers so much musical terrain that it ultimately defies classification. The Idaho quartet's music is a sustained eruption of clashing elements that somehow hold together, veering maniacally from classic hard rock to screamo to honky-tonk country at breakneck speed. Bandmates (and brothers) Dawson, Kyle, and Parker Scholz (augmented by bassist TJ Nichols) violate musical boundaries with abandon as they scorch and seethe their way through crazed Wild West-themed rockers (Let's Deal the Cards Again), twisted boogie tunes (Failures & Fakes), and blazing metalcore tirades (Like Autumn). Tracks like Sidelines (a soulful piano ballad that segues into a pummeling assault) and Cover Girl (matching banjo licks with gnarly guitars and raw vocals) are dazzling in their audacity. Goodbye, So Long My Love closes the album with a weirdly effective fusion of jazzy rhythms, strings, and freakout screams. Romantic recriminations and defiant statements with a spiritual tinge provide the dominant lyric content here. - iTunes

CD Details

Release Date: August 20, 2013

Record Label: Solid State Records

UPC: 810488020571

Number of Discs: 1

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1398/5745/products/600x600bb_77014629-4eea-4d6d-960e-b7db884bfaa2.jpg?v=1471616621
ongoing-concept-handmade-cd
Handmade CD
Handmade is the 2015 release from The Ongoing Concept.

CD Details

Release Date: June 16, 2015

Record Label: Solid State Records

UPC: 810488021523

Number of Discs: 1

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1398/5745/products/600x600bb_9743f0cf-daf8-451e-9162-eb3691a32776.jpg?v=1471616833
ongoing-concept-places-cd
Places CD
Places is the 2017 release from The Ongoing Concept.

CD Details

Release Date: October 6, 2017

Record Label: Solid State Recordings

UPC:
810488022889

Number of Discs: 1

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1398/5745/products/600x600bb_3e3a14c3-aea0-4c5a-b9b7-12af03fb527e.jpg?v=1506312237
