The Classic Crime

Seattle-based alternative rock band The Classic Crime has built a devoted following over two decades with their emotionally charged songwriting and melodic post-punk sound. Fronted by vocalist Matt MacDonald, the band explores themes of faith, doubt, and resilience with an honesty that resonates deeply with fans. Their catalog ranges from the stripped-back intimacy of Acoustic to the ambitious layered arrangements of The Silver Cord, showcasing a band unafraid to evolve.

Stripping away the glossy production and grandiose dynamics that sent their debut album Albatross soaring, The Classic Crime get back to basics with the Seattle Sessions. If anything, the stripped back arrangements and rawness of the sound feeds the immediacy and intensity of Crime's music, further accentuating the drama inherent in the lyrics and Matt MacDonald's vocals. And drama washes across this set, themed around touring's heavy toll. "I'm so lost," MacDonald cries out on "Far from Home," the album's emotional denouement, as the band struggles to stay afloat under waves of homesickness. The C&W tinged "Drink in My Hand" is a romantic number intercut with road angst, with MacDonald lamenting, "I am almost nowhere, and I'm getting there fast. Bitterness spills over the heavy hitting "Wake Up (Ship Wreck)," and drips across the folky "The Test," as the band sarcastically raise a glass to "the promise of glamorous living." In which case, why bother leaving home? A question the band ask themselves on the melancholy "Seattle," whose anthemic chorus, "Rain on my hopes, rain on my soul, rain on everything I know. It feels so ludicrous the pursuit of this dream, we thought we'd be there long ago," perfectly sums up the mood of the set and band itself. But they're not the only ones far from home and fearful of the future, with the evocative "When the Time Comes" drawing veiled references to Iraq and Afghanistan. Filled with impassioned songs, each beautifully delivered, and backed by superb guitar work and strong rhythms, this sublime set is very different from Crime's electric work, but just as magnificent. - iTunes

CD Details

Release Date: November 06, 2007

Record Label: Tooth & Nail Records

UPC: 094639820825

Number of Discs: 1

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1398/5745/files/The_Classic_Crime_Acoustic_EP_-_Seattle_Sessions_CD.jpg?v=1753377427
classic-crime-silver-cord-cd
The Silver Cord CD
The Silver Cord is the 2008 release from Seattle band The Classic Crime.

CD Details

Release Date: July 22, 2008

Record Label: Tooth & Nail Records

UPC: 5099920616526

Number of Discs: 1

While it might be up for debate whether or not the The Classic Crime are a Christian rock band, what is clear is that they're one of the most consistently solid and almost unerringly upbeat bands working. With their third album, Vagabonds, the band continues to deliver the same uplifting alternative rock that's made it so successful. Even from the opening moments of A Perfect Voice, it's clear that this is a bummer-free experience, with sunny guitars and a big singalong chorus preparing for the heaping helpings of sugar-coated hard rock that are yet to come. The title track, Vagabonds, keeps piling on the sweetness, but since the rest of the album is so positive, it never ends up feeling saccharine. The band really pours on the emotion with Different Now, a hard-rocking ballad about personal growth and redemption, showing that things aren't always so nice and clean, but that there's always a chance that they can be. This is definitely an all-around brighter album than their last record, 2008's Silver Cord, but the musical formula is mostly unchanged. Fortunately for the Classic Crime, it's a formula that works for them, making Vagabonds an album that should have no difficulty pleasing their followers. - iTunes

CD Details

Release Date: July 22, 2008

Record Label: Tooth & Nail

UPC: 5099930793828

Number of Discs: 1

CD edition of Phoenix, the 2012 release from rockers The Classic Crime.

CD Details

Release Date: August 14, 2012

Record Label: Goomba Music

UPC: 769623142428

Number of Discs: 1

In honor of ten years of The Classic Crime, the band released this collection of past songs with "revisited" and acoustic arrangements.

CD Details

Release Date: October 27, 2014

Record Label: BC Music

UPC: 707541794091

Number of Discs: 1

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1398/5745/files/The_Classic_Crime_What_Was_Done_Volume_1_-_A_Decade_Revisited_CD.jpg?v=1753377139
classic-crime-how-to-be-human
How To Be Human CD
How To Be Human is the 2017 release from Seattle rockers The Classic Crime.

CD Details

Release Date: April 28, 2017

Record Label: BC Music

UPC: 798576970529

Number of Discs: 1

Patterns In The Static is the 2020 release from The Classic Crime.

CD Details

Release Date: February 28, 2020

Record Label: The Classic Crime

UPC: 762183515626

Number of Discs: 1

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1398/5745/files/The_Classic_Crime_Patterns_In_The_Static_CD.jpg?v=1753377010
classic-crime-phoenix-vinyl
Phoenix Vinyl LP (Ten Year Anniversary Edition)
Ten Year Anniversary Collector's Edition of Phoenix, the 2012 release from The Classic Crime.
