It's a physical record, with louder and tighter grooves, and the rawest lyrics the musician has ever recorded; tenderness and violence, sex and rebirth, Plato and Julie Delpy. What mattered most was the feel of each groove, the distance between the kick and the snare. If it didn't feel right, we'd do another take, or switch from piano to guitar, or change the drum sound, Vollebekk says. 10 different tracks for 10 states of motion, each with it's own pulse. There's the heat of the night and the cool blue of morning, hints of Prince and Bill Withers. Only when everything was finally over, when the mixes were perfect, and the masters cued up did Vollebekk really understand what he had made. Now I knew what was going to happen, he remembers. The moments didn't feel fleeting, they felt eternal, almost fated. The songs spoke to me differently, but they hadn't changed. I just heard them in New Ways.

CD Details

Release Date: November 1, 2019

Record Label: Secret City Records

UPC: 680341910024

Number of Discs: 1

This live EP is a collection of recordings from Leif Vollebekk's performances that took place between 2019 and 2021 at various locations. The album is a beaming ode to the unique connection live music brings, an amalgam of feelings that can only be shared with an audience. Of the album, Leif states, 'Last year I had a chance to revisit these songs and I realized they had something my records didn't have. They resonate with that incalculable energy of a live audience. It didn't matter whether they were listening to FM radio on the freeway, watching a CBS broadcast of The Late Late Show at home or standing right there in front me at the Troubadour in LA. The audience completes the music. They inform it and they shape it. They're on the other end of the frequency and they make new waves of their own. That symbiosis is something during these past two years I've missed more than anything. And I feel it on this record. The thing about live music is that, until about a hundred years ago, it was the only kind of music there was.'

VINYL Details

Release Date: May 13, 2022

Record Label: Secret City Records

UPC: 680341356013

Number of Discs: 1

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1398/5745/files/Leif_Vollebekk_New_Ways_Live_Recordings_19-_21_Vinyl_LP.jpg?v=1763353069
leif-vollebekk-north-americana-vinyl
North Americana Vinyl LP
Vinyl LP edition of North Americana, the 2013 release from Leif Vollebekk.

VINYL Details

Release Date: April 28, 2023

Record Label: Secret City Records

UPC: 680341670010

Number of Discs: 1

CD edition of North Americana, the 2013 release from Leif Vollebekk.

CD Details

Release Date: April 28, 2023

Record Label: Secret City Records

UPC: 680341670027

Number of Discs: 1

Double vinyl LP edition of Revelation, the 2024 release from Leif Vollebekk.

Canadian singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Leif Vollebekk is a philosophy student turned troubadour who marries Carl Jung's I Ching musings and Wittgenstein's love of language with his own lyrical poetry on the aptly named Revelation, a product of the introspection brought on by the lockdown.
